Travel - Huge Hotel Discount
- The Marriott hotel employee pricing policy. If
you work for a Marriott hotel, you get access to any Marriott owned
hotel at a discounted price. If you want the discount, you have to
go to Human Resources to get a piece of paper that is signed by them
and by yourself, showing you're an employee. When you get to your
travel destination, you present this piece of paper to the front
desk and they issue your employee discount. The trick: You can make
a reservation at any Marriott FOR any Marriott via the phone. Call
reservations, be as friendly and talkative as you can, as this
usually will not raise any suspicion. When you start talking to the
reservation agent, say, "I'm an associate at X Marriott property
and am going to X Marriott property for vacation and would like to
check on the employee rate." If they don't have the employee rate,
they might have a friends and family rate. Let's say that the
employee rate is available. Usually, no matter how nice the hotel
is, you can get a great deal. When you get to your travel
destination, the front desk will see that you are booked under the
employee reservation price. They will ask for the piece of paper.
Put on a show by looking in your luggage, backpack, wallet, etc.
Tell them that you can't find it, but will be sure to call the
Marriott you work at and have them fax it over. If it’s a relatively
large Marriott, the chances of you getting the same desk agent when
checking out are very slim. When you're checking out, if they ask
you if you have the employee discount paper (which they very well
may not), you can then say that you had forgotten it, but had called
the Marriott and they had faxed it to them while you were on the
phone with them. The Marriott employee will assume it’s an error on
their part, maybe for not looking for it or misplacing the fax, and
will issue you your employee discount price without any proof. This
entire tip could very well work with other hotel chains as well.
